How did you like the State Fair or did you even go? The weather was cooperative, no giant thunderstorms, heatwaves or hurricanes. Well this is Illinois, anything could happen. Our states first fair was held in October of 1853. The first four days it rained and turned the whole affair to a bog of mud. This weather business is not a phenomenon, it??s a tradition. The fair was then held in a number of different cities until 1894 when it adopted Springfield and it??s current and permanent location. I hope you had a chance to make it out there. From the beginning the fair has always had an agricultural theme and that continues today. My good friend Olivia has entered livestock for several years and this year she won two State Fair championships with goats she raised. Congratulations Olivia and good job. Speaking of good jobs, school started this week, so be on the lookout for kids, busses and teachers. In that regard we will begin our new season of Sunday School on September 10 at 9:30 am. Get the kids ready to come to the Tallula Christian Church for church school fun, games and even a lesson. Everyone is welcome, no matter what age. Even the adults can join us for coffee and a class. Each Friday the men of the community meet at the church to drink coffee and talk about the things that concern them. They meet at 8 am and are there until all the world??s problems are solved. It??s good time, good coffee and good eats. Last week a wonderful person brought over biscuits and gravy. They have also had donuts, coffee cake and cinnamon rolls. If you don??t go, you are missing out. Of course, we have worship service each Sunday beginning at 10:30 am, immediately after Sunday School. Everyone is welcome, come as you are, we are easy to find just three summertime blocks north of beautiful fair-like and historic downtown Tallula at 311 North Yates. I??m sure you??ll be glad you did or my name isn??t Dave Poeschel, Pastor and as I always say, ??We??ll leave the light on for you, the light of Christ.?
